Creativity and desktop publishing

The creativity skills in desktop publishing include the ability to write fluently and grammatically,  or the ability to hire a someone - a freelance writer, that can write fluently and grammatically. They also include the ability to design a publication in an attractive and eye-catching style, or hire a designer that can do this.
The good news is, these skills can be learned, it isn't necessary to hire a freelance writer or designer. It will enhance a publication if it has been written and designed  by professionals, it will almost certainly look 'more professional.'
But of course this will also increase the financial risk to the publisher,  who will have to pay these people before any copies of the publication have been sold.
Revisit Publishing is aimed directly at desktop publishers who don't plan to hire professionals, who plan to write and design their publications themselves.

About desktop publishing and self publishing

It's very satisfying when someone buys a publication that has been   created on a desktop publishing or self publishing system. Publications like this  have been created on a personal level, the publisher is personally involved, so each sale results in a sense of  personal satisfaction.
There is the financial satisfaction of selling a publication and the emotional satisfaction of selling a publication.
The financial satisfaction is achieved by making a profit on the sale of the publication, or at least by not losing money on the sale of the publication. The emotional satisfaction is achieved by the knowledge that someone is reading a publication which the desktop publisher has created, that someone finds the publication interesting
Desktop publishing has its risks, like any other venture.  However, it's far less risky than mainstream publishing, which is notoriously financiallyrisky.
With desktop publishing or self publishing, the financial investment is low; most people can afford to invest in it.
The real investment is the creativity that is required,  and the marketing skills that are required.
