Desktop publishing as a work from home job

Revisit Publishing adopts a pretty unusual style of desktop publishing because its publications are printed and published as a work from home job rather than being printed and published by a self publishing website.

They are created as a work from home business using budget desktop publishing software, printed on a laser printer, collated and finished manually and marketed by calling on local book stores in person and asking if they will stock the publications. Perhaps surprisingly, the system actually works. The book stores are willing to stock the publications, the publications sell and I make a profit. This success story doesn’t mean that the alternative - to publish via a self publishing website, isn’t a good idea. It might well be a good idea. It’s just that I haven’t got around to trying it yet. This blog is a voyage of discovery, an honest and unbiased inquiry into desktop publishing as a work from home job or business. I’ll describe the methods and equipment that I use, the problems that I encounter, the successes, and let you the visitor decide whether you want to adopt my style of self publishing or the self publishing website system.

Desktop publishing and the work from home scam

It should be pretty obvious that my style of self publishing isn’t a work from home scam. It can’t be, because I’m not asking you to invest anything. It’s a genuine no investment work from home system.

Equipment investment in desktop publishing

But keep in mind that you will have to invest in something. You’ll have to invest in some printing and publishing equipment - a good laser printer, preferably a color laser printer, for example.

English investment in desktop publishing

You might also have to invest a certain amount of writing ability and a good knowledge of English usage and English grammar if you use my system. But you might have to invest this even if you used a self publishing website. They will expect you to supply them with a publication that is written in good English and is grammatically correct, although some provide a writing and editing service for desktop publishers. If you are unsure about your writing ability and English usage don’t worry, I’ll be covering this in future posts.
